Ebook About
Love blooms in the dark. Sirideán longs for adventure, but in the modern world, there’s little left to explore. After a backpacking tour of Faerie ends with him certain there’s nothing left to see, a wrong step sends the sorcerer tumbling down the wrong path in a cavern system and into a secret world below. There, he meets Enki — one of the last gods on Earth and the guardian to the gates of the Underworld. Injured, Sirideán must rely on the god’s hospitality, but the more time he spends with the isolated and innocent man, the deeper in love the intrepid sorcerer becomes. Will love be his greatest adventure? Enki expects nothing. In a world where the gods are dying or going into hiding in other realms, Enki grows lonely in his subterranean realm. Hidden beneath the Earth, he guards portals to the Underworld, ensuring every soul peacefully makes its way in the great beyond, but while his subjects at times visit the surface and the sprawling cities humanity has made, Enki must remain at the gates. Trapped in a crystalline palace left to him as a child. When a sorcerer stumbles upon his realm, Enki fears another attempt to destroy the gates in a foolhardy quest to conquer death, but the world above has forgotten about them and him. Sirideán paints a picture of a wonderland, and every day as Enki falls in love, he realizes more and more that he could never ask the sorcerer to abandon the universe for him. When other magic users come looking for the wayward sorcerer, will Sirideán leave Enki behind? Will the gates be discovered and the attacks start again? Claiming the God Below is a gay fantasy romance with mpreg, no cheating, and a HEA.

Book Claiming the God Below: M/M Gay Fantasy Romance (M/M Gay Paranormal Romance) Review :

I'm undecided on how I feel about this book. I love aspects of it- different gods and worlds/realms to explore, different traditions, and mythical beings. My heart really felt for Enki. His story is really sad and he's so lonely it's heartbreaking to read. I liked Sirideán while he was traveling. Once he was in he Realm Below and interacting with Enki... not so much. Honestly, he made me a little uncomfortable. He was obviously flirting repeatedly while injured and meeting Enki and learning where he was. He kept winking and making innuendos- that completely went over Enki's head- and all I can think is, 'this is how to speak to a powerful god? Nearly falling to your death and breaking your leg, and you're only thinking with your dick.'I didn't really feel any chemistry between Enki and Sirideán. Instead of showing their next few interactions, it's just glossed over and sort of summarizing it, so we never see them initially bond.Their first sexual experience together felt completely one-sided to me and I kind of felt uncomfortable over it feeling so forced. "They faced each other, Enki desperately trying to pull back but strong hands held him firmly in place." Enki didn't seem willing at all, but couldn't get away from Sirideán. "Hunger blazed awake inside him, and Sirideán gave Enki no way to escape it. His hands tied Enki down." And "Enki tried to sit up, hoping to at least separate their lips if he could not escape the man’s lap. He needed air. Needed space to think — to retreat and plan"... "But Sirideán’s hands shifted"... "tugging him even closer as if in punishment for trying to do the opposite." Enki "just needed space." Eventually Enki was seduced and they did their thing.Immediately afterwards when Enki teleported Sirideán away to his room, and Sirideán was frustrated over it, a dwarf told him he should leave Enki alone. Sirideán got very angry and very possessive, flung the dwarf across the room with his power and ran off to find Enki. It felt more dangerous than anything else. Especially taking Enki's gentle and innocent personality into account. (And fury and violence against people who've been sheltering and healing you all this time? Really?) My immediate thought was that I don't want this guy anywhere near him. Enki is extremely lonely- that is clear. It was uncomfortable when Sirideán asserted control because it felt like he was giving Enki no choice. For example: "“Let me touch you,” Sirideán commanded, avoiding forming a question to keep the stress of decision from Enki who seemed so overwhelmed and lonely in his obligations." To me it just sounds like what a controlling abusive person might tell himself to rationalize not giving the other person a choice but forcing them to do only what they want. It's never okay to take away someone else's consent. Sirideán just really rubs me the wrong way.Once their relationship became more sexual, and Enki wasn't so unwilling, the relationship didn't feel as uncomfortable to me. They had horrible communication causing a lot of heartache that seemed like it could be cleared up in five minutes if they actually sat down to talk. And them being fated but Sirideán not knowing it in spite of all the obvious signs and the information he knew about his stringbond beforehand baffled me. Regardless, they get their HEA at the end.The writing itself is choppy at times. There are some wrong words or wrong uses of words throughout- like 'you're' instead of 'your,' and 'bit' instead of 'but.' Sometimes words were repeated in the same sentence, like, "Jealousy and fury and a growing possessive fury rose in his chest until he could barely breathe." And some sentences I couldn't make sense of: "Someone who Enki didn’t just get lost." (This sentence comes after Sirideán imagines Enki possibly finding another lover in the future.)The story itself was okay, but the relationship needed fleshing out with more bonding beyond just physical. I like the world itself, and I really liked Enki. Sirideán needed work, too I think, as I couldn't bring myself to like him. 2 stars.
Sirideán has built his sorcery career around traveling the known lands. Faerie is last on his list, but it turns out not to be quite the adventure he'd hoped. Then he falls into the Realm Below, literally. Neither Underworld nor simply the underground, the Realm Below is a long-lost explorer's paradise, but Sirideán quickly determines that he'd much rather spend his time exploring Enki. The god of this hidden world, Enki wouldn't wish being trapped there on anyone, especially not his mate. Will Sirideán ever be able to convince the god that his wanderer's heart has finally decided to settle? This interconnected series has always had wonderful worldbuilding and the Realm Below is no different. I can't remember if it's ever been mentioned before, but even if this is the first time the reader is learning of it, it feels rich and authentic to the universe that the author has created. Sirideán and Enki both had huge hearts, but they expressed their feelings in different ways, which unfortunately led to some miscommunication-based drama. However, the bulk of the story was spent detailing their romance and their issues were resolved rapidly, so the frustration was short-lived.Given the isolated nature of these characters, I'm not sure if they'll be able to pop up in a future book or not, but I certainly wouldn't turn down the opportunity to see them again.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
